One of the biggest
One of the biggest-grossing animated films of all-time, and with a celebrated musical score from Elton John, Tim Rice and Hans Zimmer, Disney's 1994 family musical The Lion King continues (and no doubt will do so eternally) to enchant and entertain audiences.
The story of the honored lion prince Simba follows him as he frolics through his happy childhood and then turns tragic with the murder of his father by his evil uncle, Scar. Simba's exile and triumphant return incorporates elements of the Bible, African folk legends, along with a dash of Shakespeare and classic mythology to produce a thrilling, wonderfully told tale that is timeless.
An esteemed cast of voices lend realism, including Matthew Broderick, James Earl Jones, Jeremy Irons, Nathan Lane, Whoopi Goldberg and Cheech Marin. The Lion King received two Academy Awards for Best Original Score and Song, as well as winning the Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture. The Lion King also produced a smash Broadway musical, where it is currently the seventh-longest running show in history, having premiered in November, 1997.
